School Resource Officer Program

In Partnership with Chippewa and Patterson Townships

Blackhawk School District is proud to partner with Chippewa Township and Patterson Township to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) who serve in our schools each day. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to fostering safe, supportive, and respectful learning environments for all students and staff.

School Resource Officers are sworn law enforcement professionals who are specially trained to work within the school community. They play a unique and important role that goes beyond safety and security—building positive relationships with students, promoting respect for the law, and serving as mentors, educators, and trusted resources.

The purpose of having SROs in our schools is threefold:

  1. Safety and Protection – SROs help ensure a safe school environment by deterring and responding to potential threats, assisting in emergency preparedness, and supporting staff during crisis situations.

  2. Education and Prevention – SROs work with educators to provide classroom presentations and discussions about topics such as good citizenship, conflict resolution, substance abuse prevention, and digital safety.

  3. Relationship Building – By being present in the schools daily, SROs build rapport with students, offering guidance, support, and positive role modeling.

At Blackhawk, we believe that a strong and visible partnership between schools and local law enforcement contributes to a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration. We are grateful for the dedication of our SROs and the support of Chippewa and Patterson Townships in helping to keep our schools safe and nurturing places to learn and grow.
