Supporting Health, Promoting Success

The Role of School Nurses at Blackhawk School District

At Blackhawk School District, we believe that healthy students are better learners. Our school nurses play a vital role in ensuring that all students are safe, healthy, and ready to learn each day.

The philosophy of school nursing is rooted in care, prevention, education, and advocacy. Our nurses are more than medical responders—they are trusted members of the school community who support the whole child, addressing physical, emotional, and developmental needs in collaboration with families, educators, and healthcare providers.

What School Nurses Do:

  • Provide immediate care for illness, injury, and medical needs during the school day

  • Manage chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies

  • Administer medications and monitor treatment plans

  • Conduct health screenings and maintain student health records

  • Promote health education and disease prevention

  • Serve as liaisons between families, schools, and healthcare providers

  • Support mental health awareness and student wellness

Our school nurses are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where every student feels supported. Their work helps reduce health-related barriers to learning and empowers students to take charge of their well-being.

At Blackhawk, we are grateful for our nursing team’s dedication and compassion. They are key partners in our mission to educate and care for the whole child—mind, body, and spirit.

If you have questions about your child’s health needs at school or would like to speak with a nurse, please don’t hesitate to contact your building’s health office.
