Technology Education

The Technology and Engineering Department at Blackhawk High School prepares students to become innovative thinkers, skilled problem-solvers, and creative designers through hands-on learning that integrates science, mathematics, and technology. Students gain both foundational knowledge and advanced technical skills in engineering, design, and trades-related disciplines. Skills Students Develop

Through a wide range of courses and projects, students build practical experience in:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving

  • Design thinking and innovation

  • Collaboration and teamwork

  • Technical drawing and blueprint reading

  • Coding and programming logic

  • Mechanical and electrical systems

  • 3D modeling and prototyping

  • Safe practices in engineering labs

  • Measuring tools and precision work

Career Pathways

The department supports exploration of careers in:

  • Engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, software)

  • Architecture and industrial design

  • Robotics and automation

  • Manufacturing and construction

  • Computer science and information technology

  • Building trades, including:

    • Plumbing

    • Electrical

    • Carpentry

    • Skilled labor

Students are also encouraged to participate in STEM competitions, field experiences, and industry certifications to enhance their skills and career readiness.
