The Blackhawk High School Science Department offers an engaging and rigorous program designed to spark curiosity, build scientific literacy, and foster a lifelong appreciation of the natural world. Whether students are beginning their science journey or preparing for advanced study in STEM fields, our diverse course offerings provide meaningful opportunities for inquiry, discovery, and critical thinking.
Students begin with foundational courses such as Biology and Chemistry, where they explore core principles, develop laboratory skills, and apply the scientific method to real-world problems. In 9th grade, students take Biology and participate in the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Biology Keystone Exam, a state-required graduation assessment. These courses emphasize hands-on experimentation, data analysis, and evidence-based reasoning to deepen understanding of the world around us.
As students progress, they may choose from a variety of specialized courses including Agriscience, Environmental Science, and Physics. These courses expand scientific knowledge, introduce current issues and technologies, and encourage interdisciplinary connections.
For those seeking advanced opportunities, we offer AP and CHS courses such as CHS Anatomy & Physiology, CHS/AP Biology, CHS Chemistry, CHS/AP Environmental Science, and AP Physics 1 & 2.
The Science Department plays a vital role in developing informed, curious, and responsible citizens ready to engage with the scientific challenges of today and tomorrow. Whether pursuing science professionally or as a way to better understand the world, Blackhawk students leave our program with the mindset and tools of true scientific thinkers.
