Portrait of a Graduate

At Blackhawk High School, our Portrait of a Graduate represents a shared vision for the essential skills, character traits, and social-emotional competencies that every student needs to thrive in college, career, and life. Rooted in the demands of a rapidly evolving world, this vision ensures that each graduate is not only academically prepared but also equipped with the tools to navigate the complexities of the 21st century.

Blackhawk’s Portrait of a Graduate centers around six key competencies that reflect our commitment to holistic, future-focused education:

  • Technology Literacy – The ability to effectively and critically use technology to access, manage, evaluate, create, and communicate information and responsibly preparing students for academic, personal, and professional success in a technology-driven society.
  • Critical Thinking – The ability to analyze information, assess different perspectives, and make reasonable judgements.   Critical thinking involves questioning assumptions and finding logical solutions to problems.
  • Information Technology – The ability to find, evaluate, and use information effectively.  This skill includes knowing how to research, critically analyze sources, and make informed decisions based on reliable data.
  • Collaboration – Working effectively with others, including people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.  Collaboration involves communication, teamwork, and problem-solving in group settings.
  • Leadership – The ability to inspire, motivate, and guide others in achieving goals.  Leadership includes decision-making, conflict resolution, and promoting a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Communication – The ability to clearly express ideas, thoughts, and information both verbally and non-verbally.   Effective communication also includes active listening, writing skills, and the use of digital media to share ideas.
The Blackhawk Portrait of a Graduate is more than a framework—it’s a promise to our students and community. It guides our teaching, shapes our learning environments, and ensures that every graduate leaves prepared to lead, learn, and succeed in a dynamic world.
