The English Department provides a comprehensive and engaging curriculum designed to develop strong literary, writing, and communication skills essential for success in the 21st century. With courses offered at the Academic, Honors, Advanced Placement, and College in High School levels, students have opportunities to earn college credit and challenge themselves academically.
Our program supports all learners—whether college-bound or entering the workforce—by building the critical thinking and language skills necessary for their future paths. A wide range of enriching electives allows students to explore their interests, including options in journalism, public speaking, creative writing, film, and more.
All 10th grade students take the Keystone Literature assessment. This state and PDE assessment is also a state graduation requirement. Research writing is a key component at each grade level, covering a variety of meaningful topics. As a capstone experience, all seniors complete a personal essay, resume, and presentation as part of the Senior Exit Interview, helping prepare them for life beyond high school.
