Music

At Blackhawk Intermediate School, music is an essential part of our students’ educational experience. All students in grades K–4 receive 40 minutes of General Music instruction every four school days. Our music program is designed to engage students through singing, movement, instrument play, and active listening—helping them explore and understand the building blocks of music in a joyful, hands-on environment.

Instruction draws from established methodologies such as Kodály, Dalcroze, and Orff-Schulwerk, creating a dynamic and inclusive learning space for all learners. Cross-curricular connections are integrated through art, technology, and children’s literature, encouraging creativity and reinforcing skills from other academic areas. These early music experiences lay the foundation for continued study in the performing arts while fostering community, cooperation, and a shared love of music.
