At Blackhawk Intermediate School, we believe that reading is the foundation for lifelong learning. We are committed to fostering a love of books, building strong literacy skills, and supporting students as they grow into confident, independent readers. Whether students are reading for learning or enjoyment, access to books and reading tools is essential—both at school and at home.
To support our youngest Cougars on their reading journey, we’ve gathered a collection of helpful resources for students and families. These tools can be used to explore book options, monitor reading progress, and connect with library systems both in and beyond our school.
Each week, classes visit the BIS Library to check out books, take Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes, and conduct research. In addition to scheduled visits, the library is open to students throughout the day with a pass for independent book exchange or quiet reading. The library houses four computers for student use, including AR testing and research activities.
Students may check out up to two books at a time. While there are no fines for overdue books, students must return any overdue items before checking out additional books. If a book is lost or damaged, families are asked to contact Miss Peabody for replacement information. Our librarian works closely with students and teachers to help every reader find “just right” books that match their reading level and interests.
